Bee quilt is done

If you noticed the bottom of the bee quilt is not a straight edge, well it ended up being harder than I expected. I was going to cut the edge straight across, on the top and bottom, and then add a border, but I didn’t like the length of the quilt if I cut it. I decided to add another layer. ugh. Of course I got so involved in sewing the quilt, I didn’t take pictures. Trust me, it was not easy, at least for me.

I cut out triangles that fit into the bottom spot, and then cut those in half. I should have thought this out a little better, and actually sewn on the main strip, before sewing the strips together, lesson learned.

Anyway it’s done.  After the “hard” work, I think it turned out great.

I did a quick ‘squiggle’ type quilting design, used verigated pink threading.

It is up for sell in my Etsy shop, Mulberry Bee Crafts.

I did another hand sewn binding, it’s the only way I’ll do binding now. I’m actually a little tempted to redo my already finished quilts.

My next project will be with paper, time for a new party pack!!

Sewing the top of the Bee Quilt

I found it!  This is the quilt pattern I used, Quick Herringbone Quilt Pattern. I had everything laid out, and ready to go.  Sewing it was easy.  There was a step that I should have photographed but didn’t, I guess I was too antsy to get the quilt together. It’s picture 8 on the pattern, you need to overlay your material a bit, that way it all lines up once you sew it. Trust me, somewhere along the line I didn’t see this tip, and had to redo a row! You don’t want a wacky side to try to bind or add a border too!

Overall it was pretty easy, I just sewed one row at a time, and then sewed those rows together.  Once I had 4 separate sections, I sewed those together.  Easy!  A lot easier than I expected.

bee_quilt_chevron_005I really like how this is going. I’m planning on selling this in my Mulberry Bee Etsy shop, but it is tempting to keep.

One of the perks of moving, is that you go through items you’ve had for awhile. I bought this really cute bee material a long time ago. I decided I finally needed to put this to use, so here it goes.

I decided to challenge myself on this quilt. Normally I’ll find a pattern that goes together easily and uses mainly squares or rectangles, hence the matryoshka quilt. I found a super cute pattern online, of course I can’t find the site I found it on right now. It’s definitely different than what I normally do.

Cutting everything went pretty well, I did lose a few pieces because I wasn’t paying close enough attention. Once you cut your angle, you need to flip and turn the material so you create a parallelogram, well I forgot to turn some of them. Eh. Still worked out. The nice thing is that you can do 3-4 pieces of material at a time.

Now that everything is all cut, I’m ready to assemble. I decided to go with a “rainbow” effect.

On to sewing and finding the pattern so I can share it with you!
